Ruths Chris Steak House offers the best steaks in the entire Palm Springs desert area (probably the entire country). I fancy myself somewhat of an authority on the subject of fine steaks, honing my skills as often as possible!

I’ve been to renowned steakhouses across the country - including the famous Hereford House in Kansas City, MO - but I’ve never had a steak as delicious as these. Here's a tip: don't touch the plate when they serve you – it’s 500 degrees and sizzling!

The Story of Ruth

The story of Ruth’s Chris Steak House is fascinating. Ruth Fertel, a divorced mother of two in New Orleans, realized she couldn’t make enough money as a lab technician to send her boys to college – and she wasn’t satisfied with that fact.

In 1965, against the advice of her lawyer, she mortgaged her house for $22,000 and bought Chris Steak House on Broad Street in New Orleans, renaming it Ruth’s Chris Steak house.

Ruth knew little about restaurants, but armed with a background in science and a natural ethic for hard work and hospitality, she made up for her lack of experience. Ruth used only the finest, freshest ingredients, her customers appreciated it, and word spread all over the area. Soon Ruth’s Chris Steak House became “the place to be and eat” in New Orleans.

In 1976, the original restaurant was destroyed by fire. Undaunted, Ruth bought a new building and rebuilt. That restaurant remains the flagship restaurant today. The following year, at the request of one of her loyal guests, she established the first franchise of what would soon become one of the largest fine-dining steak house companies in the world.

Ruth Fertel died in 2002; however, her legacy lives on. With over 80 locations worldwide, Ruth’s success story is one of determination, hard work and perseverance. But more than that, you can taste the result of her efforts in every bite! Ruth believed in serving the best food in the finest environment and that philosophy has served her well over the years.
