Palm Springs weather is the reason why so many
people flock to the Coachella Valley to bask in the warm sunshine when others
are digging out of the snow!
Yes, the sun is shinning for 360 days out of the year. The
"snowbirds" from Canada, as they're called, migrate to our southerly location
every year as winter approaches.
As our weather starts it's magical transformation from the hot
summer (in about October) our general population swells by a couple
hundred thousand as people from all over the world come to experience our little oasis...
Yes, it is a fact, it can get hot out here in the desert, but
that is really only for the summer months of July, August and September. But as
they say, "It's a dry heat".
And it is true! The dryness of the air really does knock about
10-15 degrees off of the apparent temperature. Furthermore, it is remarkable how
you get used to the heat - almost to the point where you don't even notice it.
That is something I thought I would never say!
I remember moving here in the middle of the summer heat; the
last week of August. To be honest, I always loved cold weather so I was
miserable that first summer. I couldn't believe these nuts that would run around
in the shorts and tank tops saying how they loved and thrived in this 100+
degree weather.
In my second year as a full-time resident of Palm Springs, I
remember the heat not bothering me quite as much. By the third year, I couldn't
believe it - it didn't phase me...
Magical transformation
My favorite time of year is in the fall. Every year in
September there is a gradual cooling off. However, in October there is always
this magical transformation where a brief storm blows through and when it
leaves, the Palm Springs weather landscape is dramatically changed into this
incredible paradise.
With daytime temperatures in the 70's for the valley floor,
it's only a 15 minute ride to the top of the ariel tramway and a snow covered
winter wonderland!
For the following 8 or 9 months the weather is simply
fantastic. The temperature hovers in the 70-80 degree range and life is
wonderful!
