The Palm Springs Shopping Scene...

Wild creativity and kitschy chic converge in the shopping district of North Palm Canyon Drive. Located in the heart of downtown Palm Springs, the 10-block drag is a mecca of eclectic clothing boutiques, posh home emporiums, and countless gift stores specializing in everything from Italian pottery to custom sunglasses to vintage postcards.

Highlights include the much-celebrated Trina Turk, which features polished yet practical designs worn by none other than Nicole Kidman, Reese Witherspoon, Halle Berry, and more.

A block north is the standing-room-only giftique Home 101, which offers candles by Diptyque and Swoon, Kai perfume oil, DuWop cosmetics, and Brave Soldier skin care for men.

For those who long for the days of shag rugs, ball clocks, Eames chairs and bubble lamps, run don’t walk to the Modern Way, one of the best furniture stores to pay homage to mid-20th century design.

Other Palm Springs shopping highlights...

Trend afficianados won’t want to miss Oooh La La and its sister store Shoe La La which features cutting edge pieces like DaNang cropped pants, Michael Stars tees, Betsey Johnson dresses, Allen B. jeans, and Carlos Santana stilettos. Added to the Fred Segal-style mix are the ever-popular Nomination charms and hard-to-find gifts for babies and puppies.

One of the best nights to shop is on Thursday night, when the town turns into mini Mardi Gras with its weekly Village Fest and Farmer’s Market.

Street musicans play everything from Calypso to Cajun while vendors hock organic produce, beach glass jewelry, hand-poured candles, and billboard-sized watercolors.

Keep your eyes open for celebrities; George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Kevin Costner, and Cher have all been spotted at the Village Fest.

The next stop on our shopping tour:

Let's run over to The River of Rancho Mirage - come with us and check out the deserts newest shopping wonderland! "The River" is the place to hang out; see a movie, grab some food and spend some time in the wide variety of shops and stores...
